Hunter Wheel Alignment

Camber, caster, toe and thrust angle, get any of those out and the car pulls, the tyres wear unevenly, and you are replacing rubber years before you should. We check all four using a Hunter VAS 6292, not a tape measure and a guess. Four-wheel alignment is £120.

Understanding the Importance of Alignment

What is Wheel Alignment?

Camber is how far the top of the wheel leans in or out from vertical. Caster affects steering return and stability at speed. Toe is whether the wheels point slightly in or out relative to each other, the single biggest cause of tyre wear when it is off. Thrust angle checks whether the rear axle is square to the car, not just whether the front wheels point straight. The VAS 6292 measures all four against your car exact manufacturer specification, not a generic setting, and shows you the before and after on screen.

Why 4-Wheel Beats 2-Wheel

A lot of places only check the front. On a modern VAG car with independent rear suspension, the rear can be out just as easily as the front, and if it is, aligning only the front will not fix the pull, it will just mask it. Four-wheel alignment checks the whole car against itself, not just the steering axle.

When to Get an Alignment?

Pulling to One Side

If your vehicle drifts left or right even when driving straight, it could be a sign of misalignment affecting your control.

Uneven Tire Wear

Tires wearing out faster on one side indicate improper alignment, reducing their lifespan and leading to costly replacements.

Steering Vibrations

A shaky or vibrating steering wheel, especially at higher speeds, can be caused by misaligned wheels struggling to stay in sync.

Why Alignment Matters?

Longer Tire Life

Proper alignment ensures even tire wear, preventing premature damage and saving you money on replacements.

Better Fuel Efficiency

When wheels are correctly aligned, there is less rolling resistance, allowing your car to move smoothly and consume less fuel.

Enhanced Handling

A well-aligned vehicle provides more precise steering, better road grip, and a safer, more comfortable driving experience.

Common Questions

How do I know if I need an alignment?

Pulling to one side, uneven tyre wear, or a steering wheel that is off-centre when driving straight are the clearest signs. Any of them is worth checking.

Do I need an alignment after new tyres?

Yes. Fitting tyres to a car that is out of alignment wears the new set exactly the same way as the old ones.

How long does it take?

Under an hour for most cars, done on the same visit.

Does this apply to quattro and 4Motion models?

Yes, and it matters more, since uneven wear on a driven axle is not just a tyre problem.
